Do You Hire For Skill Or Mindset?

Do You Hire For Skill Or Mindset?

Imagine you are hiring a new staff member.

Would you hire for attitude or skill?

Another way of putting it – would you hire for mindset or behaviour?

I think most would say, attitude and mindset.

So why, after we have hired them, do we often focus development efforts on changing behaviour rather than mindset?

Last week, my colleague Anthony Taylor spent 2.5 days with a forward thinking housing association who are embedding Mindset and Mental Toughness in their people strategy

They developed a cohort of 10 people across their organisation to use the invaluable MTQPlus measure to support their recruitment and staff development over the coming years

The MTQPlus makes the invisible (mindset) visible, giving invaluable insight to a whole range of people challenges, including conflict, teamwork, resilience, collaboration, change management and more

It’s that invisible quality that everyone knows is supremely important and yet few do anything about. Many people perceive that this quality can not be assessed. Well .... you know when it isn't there! So its worth making the effort and now we know it can be done. No excuse any more.

What would having that kind of insight into how your people think do you for your business?
